3 Ways to Practice Self-Care as a Mom (Without Losing Your Damn Mind)

Let’s be real, being a mom is a full-on, 24/7, no-days-off kind of gig. Between wiping butts, cleaning up Cheerios from the floor (for the millionth time), and somehow still managing to look like a semi-functional human, self-care can feel like some mythical unicorn. But girl, let me tell you—it’s a necessity! You can’t pour from an empty cup (or in our case, a half-drunk cold cup of coffee). So, let’s talk about 3 simple, real-life ways you can practice self-care without needing a 5-star resort getaway.

1. The Nap You Deserve (But Never Take)

Look, I know what you’re thinking: “Nap? Ha! When?” But listen, even 15 minutes can do wonders. If you can get the kids down for a nap, or if they’re zombied out on their tablet for a hot second, take advantage of that window. Stop folding the laundry, put down the vacuum, and take your ass to bed. I’m serious. Lay down, close your eyes, and drift off into sweet silence. Your body and mind will thank you. Plus, who cares if you wake up drooling? That’s just proof you needed it.

2. The Solo Target Run (AKA: Mom’s Disneyland)

Is there anything more rejuvenating than walking through the aisles of Target, sipping your overpriced latte, while the kids stay home with Dad or a sitter? NOPE. This is your time. Use it wisely. Whether you’re buying diapers or just aimlessly wandering through the home decor section (because, why not?), this is your moment of zen. Pick up that candle you don’t need, buy the face mask you’ll probably forget to use—just embrace it. And don’t feel guilty about spending a little too much. You work hard, you deserve that damn throw pillow.

3. The “I’m Not Available” Bath

Now, this one’s a sacred art. When you announce “I’m taking a bath,” you are OFF. THE. CLOCK. No kids banging on the door, no partner asking where the remote is, no interruptions. Light a candle, throw in some bath salts, and turn on that true crime podcast you’ve been obsessed with. (Or maybe Beyoncé, depending on the vibe.) This is your sanctuary. Pro tip: Lock the door and turn the fan on to drown out any noise of chaos happening outside. The bath isn’t just a bath—it’s an escape, even if only for 30 minutes.

There you have it, mama! Three simple but powerful ways to fill your cup, refresh your soul, and give yourself some much-needed love. Remember, you’re not just a mom. You’re a badass human who deserves to take care of herself, too. So, next time you start feeling like you’re running on empty, give yourself permission to hit pause and try one of these self-care moves.

Because let’s face it, if you’re not okay, ain’t nobody okay!
